Turtles are a cultural icon in Fiji, they are known as a chiefly animal. They were hunted traditionally to provide hard to find red meat for important ceremonies. Unfortunately this hunting is an important factor in the decline of turtles in Fiji. This is the story of the agencies and people who are turning things around, employing local people to protect and monitor Turtles.
